BARCELONA, Spain, May 15 /PRNewswire/ — The Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (SCAI) today announced the international launch of the Interventional Cardiologists Institute (ICI), a comprehensive, web-based educational resource available free to interventional cardiologists at any stage of their career. The launch of ICI coincides with this year’s EuroPCR meeting in Barcelona, Spain.

“By collaborating with academic scientists and clinical experts across the cardiovascular disease spectrum, we have developed a broad educational program we are confident those in our specialty will find valuable,” says Manish Parikh, MD, FSCAI, Program Director, Interventional Cardiologists Institute, and Co-Director, Section of Coronary Intervention and Interventional Cardiology Fellowship Program, Lenox Hill Heart and Vascular Institute of New York.

George Dangas, MD, PhD, FSCAI, FESC, of Columbia University Medical Center, New York City, has played a critical role in spearheading ICI content development, and chairs the ICI Editorial Board. Development of this new SCAI educational offering began under the guidance of SCAI’s Immediate Past President, Bonnie Weiner, MD, MSEC, MBA, FSCAI, who will continue to play an important role in ICI.

The Interventional Cardiologists Institute can be accessed by visiting http://www.interventionalcardiologistsinstitute.com/. ICI features 14 eLearning courses and over 70 educational modules. Each course is web-based and includes lectures by renowned faculty, an extensive library of patient cases, and self-assessment activities developed under ACGME guidelines. Each of the 14 courses, which include topics ranging from “Cath Lab Basics” to “Patient- and Lesion-Specific Approaches,” concludes with a test to help physicians evaluate and improve their proficiency. ICI also features a career center specific to interventional cardiologists.

“As the leading professional association for interventional cardiology, SCAI aims to offer programs that provide the interventional cardiology community with the most current tools and information available to aid in their ongoing learning process,” says SCAI President Ziyad Hijazi, MD, MPH, FSCAI, Professor of Pediatrics and Internal Medicine, Rush Center for Congenital and Structural Heart Disease, Chicago, Ill. “It is our hope that the community will take advantage of ICI and the broad resources it offers.”

The Interventional Cardiologists Institute is supported by an educational grant from the Cordis Cardiac & Vascular Institute (CCVI).
