PITTSBURGH, May 19 /PRNewswire/ -- BodyMedia, Inc., announced the release of a new slimmer and more streamlined SenseWear(R) armband to it's weight loss market.
The new armband is 40% smaller than the previous model and weighs only 1.6 ounces. The smaller, lighter model offers a one-of-a-kind ergonomic design intended to provide improved comfort and can be worn more discreetly under fitted clothing.
"Its a fascinating little device that could have a huge impact on behavior modification," said Dr. Tedd Mitchell, President and Chief Operating Officer of the Cooper Clinic at the Cooper Aerobics Center in Dallas. "The armband has tremendous potential to educate the masses about their true activity level, which is often exaggerated, and motivate them to get up and get moving like they should be."
In addition, the new model operates on a rechargeable battery which lasts up to 7 days, and contains a 3-axis accelerometer for improved detection of a range of daily activities.
"The SenseWear(R) WMS armband gives the health professionals at our facility a powerful tool to teach patients how their day-to-day activity, nutrition and sleep habits, help or hinder their weight loss progress," said Pam Butler, Executive Director of Mercy Hospital HealthPlex in Ohio. "Our weight loss programs are designed around SenseWear(R) because both our practitioners and our members can see how many calories they really burn, how many they really consume and how well they really sleep, everyday. This is powerful information for behavior modification and we have enjoyed tremendous retention and patient success, as a result."
SenseWear(R) WMS consists of an armband, display and web page. The solution promotes patient self-care and enables practitioners to offer short term metabolic and lifestyle assessments as well as more effective and educational weight management programs.
