Care in Our Own Backyard
I was interested to see that South Shore Hospital in Weymouth was sponsoring a community education program at the Radisson in Plymouth about cardiovascular care on Saturday morning, April 19.
I am always excited to advance public knowledge about medical issues and could not wait to see what was being offered.
When I arrived at 9 a.m., I saw a Plymouth ambulance and fire truck at the entrance with a patient who nearly fainted. The paramedics had everything under control, and the patient was stable.
I was told the sponsors wanted him shipped to South Shore Hospital, but Jordan Hospital in Plymouth is only a few minutes away; so he was brought there, as he should have been, per EMS protocol.
It really doesn’t make sense to me to promote distant care when we have a perfectly fine community hospital in Plymouth with full service in cardiovascular care and 11 board-certified cardiologists!
The referenced event is proof that “local care is best.”
