Helicopter Crashes at Michigan Hospital
May 29, 2008
Authorities report the pilot and passenger aboard a helicopter that crashed at a downtown Grand Rapids, Mich., hospital made it out alive.
WZZM-TV, Grand Rapids, said there was no information about the condition of the two survivors of the crash, which started a smokey fire on the roof of Spectrum Health Butterworth hospital late Thursday morning.
Witnesses said the chopper appeared to wobble as it lifted off, struck the side of a tower on the building and then slid back onto the rooftop helipad where it exploded.
WOOD-TV, Grand Rapids, said part of the hospital was evacuated and police closed downtown streets around the scene.
