WASHINGTON, June 2 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — June is Mens Health Month and groups across the country will join Mens Health Network (MHN) in celebrating this special awareness period. The purpose of Mens Health Month is to heighten the awareness of preventable health problems and encourage early detection and treatment of disease among men and boys as well as expand the efforts of National Mens Health Week, the week ending on Fathers Day, June 9-15.
Anchored by the Congressional Health Screenings, hosted by Mens Health Network, Mens Health Month is celebrated across the country with screenings, health fairs, media appearances, and other health education and outreach activities. These outreach and education efforts reach men where they live, work, play, and pray, Scott Williams, VP, Professional Relations & Public Policy from Mens Health Network explained. Events are hosted throughout June to celebrate the month and to help ensure a healthier future for our nation. For a partial listing of these local events, please visit http://www.menshealthnetwork.org/calendar.htm.
Mens Health Month gives health care providers, public policy makers, the media, and individuals an opportunity to encourage men and boys to seek regular medical advice and early treatment for disease and injury. The response has been overwhelming, with hundreds of awareness activities in the USA and around the globe. Working closely with Mens Health Network to support their efforts in Mens Health Month has been a great pleasure. This month brings a great opportunity to educate men, their families, and the public on a wide range of mens health issues, from prostate cancer to nutrition and fitness, said Theresa Morrow, Program Director for Women Against Prostate Cancer.
Mens Health Network is a non-profit educational organization comprised of physicians, researchers, public health workers, other health professionals, and individuals. MHN is committed to improving the health and wellness of men and their families through education campaigns, data collection and work with health care providers to provide better programs and funding on mens health needs.
