Rap Over Junior Doctors’ Hours
April 5, 2005
NHS employers who breach working hours limits for junior doctors are to face sanctions, according to the British Medical Association.
Under a new system to be announced by the Scottish Executive Health Department, hospitals may have doctors removed if they repeatedly offend.
Where junior doctors are continually working too long, other issues such as training and education are also likely to be affected, meaning funding for training posts may be moved elsewhere.
The scheme is revealed in BMA News, which says it has been agreed between the association’s junior doctors committee, the Scottish Executive and NHS employers, and will be announced formally in the near future.
