Healthcare Veteran Joins Solantic Board of Directors

Posted on: Tuesday, 10 June 2008, 12:00 CDT

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., June 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Solantic, a Florida-based healthcare provider of full-service walk-in urgent care, today announced the appointment of Tom Scully to its Board of Directors. Mr. Scully is currently a General Partner with New York City Private Equity Firm, Welsh, Carson, Anderson and Stowe (WCAS), the largest private equity investor in healthcare. In addition, Mr. Scully is senior counsel at Alston and Bird, a Washington, DC-based law practice focusing on healthcare regulatory and legislative matters.

"Tom brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the board that will undoubtedly further propel Solantic to the next level in achieving its goals and objectives," said Richard L. Scott, Chairman and Co-Founder of Solantic. "His experience with America's healthcare system at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) and numerous other national healthcare programs will surely have a positive impact on the company."

Solantic is staffed by board-certified physicians with prices starting at $79. In addition to full service urgent care, the centers offer treatment for injured workers and a range of wellness services for individuals and companies including immunizations, blood work and physicals. Patients come to Solantic for illnesses and injuries ranging from the common cold to a broken bone.

"It is clear to me that Solantic's management team is extremely focused in its quest to be the center of choice for urgent care among residents of Florida and beyond," said Tom Scully. "I am quite happy to be appointed to Solantic's Board of Directors and look forward to contributing to the company's overall success."

Prior to joining WCAS and Alston & Bird, Scully was appointed by President George W. Bush and confirmed by the United States Senate as the Administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), where he served from 2001 through 2003. Formerly known as the Health Care Financing Administration, CMS is responsible for the management of Medicare, Medicaid, SCHIP, and other national healthcare initiatives. CMS controls more spending than any other federal agency (over $600 Billion for fiscal year 2004), and insures approximately 25% of the population of the United States -- over 70 million beneficiaries -- including the elderly, disabled, and the lowest income individuals in the country.

About Solantic http://www.solantic.com/

Richard Scott and Karen Bowling started Solantic in 2001 with a mission of providing "Convenient Health Care At A Fair Price With As Little Hassle As Possible". The founders focused on attracting individuals with a passion for patients and the desire to keep costs and thus, prices as low as possible. Solantic centers are open every day of the year with extended hours. Each center has digital X-ray and lab services on-site. Solantic was among the first health care providers in the country to set forth its prices in its lobby on a Starbucks style menu board. Urgent care physician visits are capped at $189. A comparable visit in the emergency room would cost in excess of $1,500.
