Oregon BEST Invests in Green Research Teams
The Oregon Built Environment and Sustainable Technologies Center has announced that it will invest $480,000 in 10 Oregon university faculty teams who are working in the sustainability and renewable energy sectors.
The funding was given to encourage the growth of sustainability- related projects in Oregon, leading to new companies, products and jobs within the state. The funding will go to BEST member universities, including the Oregon Institute of Technology, Oregon State University, Portland State University and the University of Oregon.
The BEST-supported research teams are all involved with green building technologies and services or clean energy generation. The projects range from solar cells, green roofs and biomass processing to green building insulation made from recycled plastics.
BEST’s shared research facilities will also receive equipment enhancements.
BEST was established in November 2007 with $2.5 million in funding from the Oregon legislature, Oregon University System and the Meyer Memorial Trust.
