TROIS-RIVIERES, Quebec, June 13 /PRNewswire/ -- According to Narconon Trois-Rivieres, drug addiction is not a random coincidence. The onset of drug addiction may be caused in most instances by a problem, a particular discomfort, an emotional disturbance or physical pain that the individual cannot handle or fix. The individual will find it very difficult to deal with that particular thing.

So, finding no apparent solution, this individual tries drugs or alcohol. The drugs simply give the illusion of solving his/her problem. That individual now feels better. The drugs or alcohol have become a cure of the unwanted feelings. The painkilling effects or the numbing of the drugs or alcohol are a quick and easy solution for the pain or discomfort. From then on, it is just a matter of time before the person loses all conscious restraints and becomes fully addicted to the substance consumed.
As the drug addict's drug and alcohol consumption increases, the guilt and the symptoms of depression will also accentuate. It will even get to a point where the drug addict will sacrifice his/her personal integrity, relationships with family and friends, savings, retirement pension and anything else that may be of use to get more drugs to support their habit.
There has been a reigning controversy over whether an individual is predisposed to addiction. Within the scientific community, it has been debated for years whether a person is genetically or biochemically inclined towards drug addiction. One particular school of thought advocates the "disease concept," which supports the notion that a drug addiction is an inherited disease and that the individual is permanently ill at the genetic level, even for those experiencing long periods of sobriety. However, all these views on drug addiction are still widely disputed and none have been concretely proven to prevail over the others.
Narconon recognizes the difficulties of being a drug addict. The majority of the staff working there is made up of former drug addicts wishing to aid others to regain control over their existence. A day can make a difference in an addict's life. Narconon expresses this commitment by helping individuals that request their assistance.
