Three Doctors Found for IHShospital

Sen. Byron Dorgan says the federal government has found three doctors who will be sent to relieve a shortage at the Belcourt hospital.

Dorgan said officials at Quentin Burdick Memorial Hospital told him last week they would have to suspend services with just a few days' notice. That would force patients to go to Devils Lake or Minot.

Dorgan, D-N.D., said the director of the Indian Health Service, Robert McSwain, agreed to take emergency action to get more doctors to Belcourt and to make sure the hospital is not caught short- handed in the future. He says two doctors will be in place next week and a permanent family practice doctor will start in July.
