Couple Fell in Love at Military Hospital
By HELEN PEARSE Herald Reporter
A couple who first met at a military hospital, and later worked together at another facility, have celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary.
Reginald and Pamela Crook celebrated 60 years of marriage with a family party on June 7.
The couple, who now live in Ivybridge, were married on June 5, 1948 at St James Church in Torpoint.
Reg and Pam (nee Hallett), met at Stoke Military Hospital.
Reg was on a Government-sponsored course after leaving the Royal Navy, and Pam was working as secretary for the Plymouth and Devonport Technical College for the Registrar.
Reg joined Moorhaven Hospital in Bittaford in 1947 and worked as a hospital administrator.
After four years, Pam did her training at the same hospital and worked there as a state-enrolled nurse.
She also used to organise the hospital’s revues.
The couple have four children – Lynda, Graham, Janette and Joy – as well as nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
And careerwise they’ve kept it in the family as their three daughters were all nurses at Moorhaven. Their son is a prison officer.
Since retiring, the couple’s interests have revolved around their large family, gardening and animals.
