Health Team Are Champs

A PATIENT’S nomination has helped a Merseyside hospital’s rheumatology team become national Healthcare Champions.

The award from the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society (NRAS) is in recognition of the excellent support and care St Helens and Knowsley hospital trust staff provide to people living with the condition.

Consultant rheumatologist Rikki Abernethy, and clinical manager of the unit Anne Campbell, accepted the award at the Houses of Parliament from the Rt. Hon Theresa May MP, NRAS patron and shadow leader of the House of Commons.

The teamwere nominated by patient of 26 years, Janice Mather of Kendal, Cumbria.

She said: “I have had nothing but the best treatment, care and support from the whole team. They all go out of their way to make me feel special. I cannot thank the team enough as they gave me my life back.”

Chief executive Ann Marr, said: “This award is a great tribute to the skill, commitment and compassion of our rheumatology team. They provide crucial support and a high standard of care for patients living with the condition.”
