Health Dialog Wins American Medical Writers Association Award

Posted on: Monday, 16 June 2008, 09:01 CDT

Health Dialog Services Corporation today announced that its Shared Decision-Making(R) booklet, Living Better with Chronic Pain has received a 2008 Will Solimene Award from the American Medical Writer's Association (AMWA). The award, which is given bi-annually in recognition of outstanding work in medical, biomedical, and health communications, was presented at the 13th Annual New England Chapter Awards Banquet on Thursday, June 12, 2008 in Waltham, Massachusetts. Entries were judged on accuracy of content, quality, and style of writing, as well as originality, achievement of purpose, and overall impact.

The Living Better with Chronic Pain booklet is just one part of a broad library of member support tools provided to individuals through Health Dialog's Collaborative Care(SM) program. This whole person health support program, which includes disease management and decision support, encourages individuals to take a proactive interest in their healthcare so they can make more informed decisions with their physicians. The winning booklet is provided to members alongside Health Dialog's corresponding Shared Decision-Making(R) video, Living Better with Chronic Pain. Health Dialog's videos and booklets are available across a wide range of chronic and preference-sensitive medical conditions and are developed in collaboration with the Foundation for Informed Medical Decision Making (FIMDM).

"Living Better with Chronic Pain was selected from among many outstanding entries in this year's competition," said Jill Shuman, Awards Director for the New England Chapter of AMWA. "We present the Will Solimene Awards for entries that demonstrate excellence in medical communication as judged by our panel of experienced and award-winning writers and editors."

"I am delighted that our booklet was acknowledged for excellence in writing," said Bill Brennan, Senior Vice President, Content Services & Product Development, Health Dialog. "This recognition reflects our constant commitment to providing individuals with quality information to help them understand complex medical conditions and make informed decisions along with their doctors."
