Oklahoma State University-Oklahoma City is now offering an Associate of Science degree in Health Care Administration.
The degree is an expansion of the former health care management program and includes the addition of classes on third-party pay/ health issues, health care coding/billing, health care provider relationships and interpersonal communication.
Increasing health care demands and baby-boomer retirements are reflected in the great deal of turnover of hospital administrators across the state, said Jeff Brewer, OSU-OKC Business Administration department head.
A degree in Health Care Administration provides graduates the opportunity to work in hospitals, public health, managed care systems, long-term care and community health facilities. OSU-OKC officials say modifying the degree was in response to the growing demand for quality health care in rural Oklahoma.
The skills and knowledge base of medical administrators is critical to the success of any hospital, and this is especially the case in rural areas, Brewer said. The revamped degree program is ideal for someone interested in the health care industry or current administrators looking to increase their skill set as to meet the growing needs of their community.
