Celebration of Anniversary Cures Some Rainy Day Blues
By Susan Brittingham, McAlester News-Capital, Okla.
Jun. 17--"Thirty" seemed to be the operative word Monday at McAlester Regional Health Center.
"If only the rain had held off for 30 more minutes," several people said as it began to pour shortly after the kick-off ceremony for the hospital's 30th anniversary began.
Thirty-odd employees were recognized for 30 years of service to MRHC, 30 balloons were released at the end of the ceremony, and soon-to-be 30-year-old Jason Evans was given a baby blue Teddy bear -- a slightly delayed present for being the first baby ever born at MRHC.
Evans was born Saturday, June 24, 1978, the very day that the hospital opened.
During Monday's ceremony, the following men were recognized for practicing medicine for 30 years at MRHC:
--Dr. Murlyn Bellamy, pathologist
--Dr. Delta Bridges, pediatrician
--Dr. John Cotton, family medicine physician
--Dr. Paul E. LeDoux, podiatrist
--Dr. Kenneth R. Miller, internal medicine physician
--Dr. Leroy Milton, internal medicine physician
--Dr. Donald H. Shuller, radiologist
Thirty-four employees were presented with certificates thanking them for devoting 30 years of their lives to patient care at MRHC.
They are Steve Bernard, Charles Boss, Marty Center, Corrie Clifton, Dorothy Crone, Mary Fabry, Bonita Graham, Dennis Graham, Martha Hailey, Charles Hallbert, Carolyn Hawkins, Lem Hodges Jr., Lottie Holiman, Letha Howry, Eddie Jarrett, Cynthia Johnston, Bryan Jones, Linda Kimbrough, Mary Leffler, Leon Mace, Loretta McElhaney, Juliet Mitchell, Joyce Nash, Joy Pierce, Sandra Pool, Michael Pullum, Anthony Ranallo, Lee Rogers, Terry Rogers, Terry Rogers, Sharleen Sparks, Charles Thayer, Pamela Thomas, Diana Ward, and Doris Warren.
The 30th anniversary celebration continues Friday with a picnic on the front lawn of the hospital from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. There will be hot dogs, cake and carnival games for children.
On Saturday, the hospital will sponsor a health fair at the Southeast Expo Center. There will be health screenings such as cholesterol checks, medication checks by registered pharmacists, free tetanus shots for adults, face painting, a bicycle rodeo for children (bicycles will be provided) and car seat safety checks.
