Kerr Drug, KDI Health Solutions and HealthTrans Collaborate to Provide Unique Pharmacy Benefits Plan

Posted on: Wednesday, 18 June 2008, 09:01 CDT

Two North Carolina companies, Kerr Drug and KDI Health Solutions, in partnership with HealthTrans, announce a new, first-of-its-kind, community-based pharmacy benefits plan, designed specifically as a solution for North Carolina employers. The patient-centric prescription benefit plan rewards employees with broader prescription benefits and best-of-class service, and employers with desired cost savings and improved workplace productivity.

Highlights of the value-based plan design include a regionally focused dispensing network, preferred pricing and incentives when filling prescriptions at a Kerr Drug pharmacy. In addition, members have access to KDI Health Solutions' statewide network of clinical pharmacists specially trained in chronic care management, combining health coaching and optimization of medication therapy.

"Because of the unique collaboration of a retail chain, a healthcare-focused company and a pharmacy benefits manager, the program allows consumers to reap more value from their pharmacy dollars, while benefiting from value-added services that better enrich the care continuum," said Anthony N. (Tony) Civello, president and CEO of Kerr Drug. "North Carolina employers and employees alike will benefit from our highly accessible, award-winning network of community-based clinical pharmacists with a decade-long track record of reducing overall healthcare costs through chronic care management, as evidenced by a consistent 4:1 return on investment."

"This flexible plan design enables employers to tailor programs to their employee population, offering maximum choices with significant co-pay incentives," said Jack McClurg, CEO of HealthTrans. "HealthTrans is pleased to provide such a cost-effective, high service offering to the North Carolina community. We understand the value of the pharmacist/patient relationship, and Kerr Drug/KDI Health Solutions have the proven service reputation to help us administer this innovative program."
