Athletes will again have the chance to spend time in Healthy Athletes Village, opening at 9 a.m. today. Healthy Athletes is an initiative designed to increase the health and fitness of people with intellectual disabilities, a medically underserved population. The Healthy Athletes program works to improve access to health care by providing free screenings, making referrals to local health practitioners and training health professionals and students about the needs of people with intellectual disabilities.

Healthy Athletes Village will offer free Special Smiles and Opening Eyes screenings today. The mission of Opening Eyes is to optimize athletes vision, eye health and visual skills through quality eye care. At the Special Smiles tent, athletes receive a dental screening, are educated on tooth maintenance and provided with a custom-fit mouth guard.

Today the Health Fair, located in Healthy Athletes Village, will have 15-minute excerpts from Fidgety Fairy Tales – The Mental Health Musicalthat promotes positive images of people with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (AD/HD). Performances will take place at 10 a.m., 11 a.m. and noon and are presented by the Minnesota Association for Childrens Mental Health.
