Posted on: Friday, 27 June 2008, 09:03 CDT
AmeriChoice, the UnitedHealth Group (NYSE: UNH) company that facilitates care for beneficiaries of state and public health care programs, has been awarded a contract by the Arizona Department of Health Services to handle enrollment, coordinate treatment plans, provide case management services and oversee clinics for approximately 23,000 children and young adults with special physical and medical needs in the Children's Rehabilitative Services (CRS) program.
This is the first time the State has contracted with a diversified health services company to provide the full range of services to this population. The new contract will be effective on October 1, 2008, and will run for two years, with the option for two one-year renewal periods. The program will be managed by Arizona Physicians Independent Practice Association (APIPA), the AmeriChoice health plan in Arizona.
Dr. Rodney Armstead, CEO of APIPA, said, "We are honored that the State of Arizona has provided us this opportunity to expand our services to the state's most vulnerable populations. Together, we share the great responsibility of improving the quality of life for children throughout Arizona."
Rick Jelinek, CEO of AmeriChoice, said, "AmeriChoice has a history of providing unique solutions to states that are seeking partners to address health care needs for specific populations of citizens. We are grateful for the opportunity to expand our services in Arizona through the CRS program."
UnitedHealth Group and AmeriChoice have served vulnerable populations in Arizona since the inception of the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System program in 1983.
