PMHS Assn Slams Attack on Doctor
LUCKNOW: Provincial Medical and Health Services (PMHS) association expressed deep discontent over the attack and assault of a doctor by attendants of a patient in Badaun district on Monday. The doctor was admitted to Balrampur Hospital further treatment on Wednesday.
Briefing media persons, PMHSA president, Dr DP Mishra said that Dr Pradeep Kumar was attacked by attendants of a patient on Monday. “The incident has raised the issue of safety of doctors at the peripheral levels. Such incidents would discourage doctors in the cadre to take up job at difficult places,” he said. The patient’s relatives were alleging negligence on the part of Dr Pradeep’s wife Dr Omwati. The two were posted at the Ujhaini Community Health Centre (CHC). However, the doctors claimed that the attendants were at fault. “The woman had come for abdominal vasectomy on June 19. Few hours after the surgery, the attendants took her away without seeking our permission. We came to know that a couple of days later, her condition deteriorated and she was admitted to Badaun district hospital. But the attendants shifted her to mission hospital in the city for better treatment where she died on June 23.
She added that doctors at the mission hospital reportedly passed the blame on doctors at the CHC, leading to the agitated attendants attacking Ujhaini CHC. Seeing the mob, nurses and doctors locked themselves inside the hospital. “Finding no one, they proceeded towards my residence, ransacked my house and pushed my husband from the stair case. He suffered a head injury besides minor abrasions. An FIR has been lodged by the couple at Badaun. The PMHS association has also submitted a memorandum to the health authorities seeking justice.
