Nemours Foundation Releases Site Plan for Children’s Hospital
By Harry Wessel, The Orlando Sentinel, Fla.
Jul. 1–The Nemours Foundation on Monday released the master site plan for its children’s hospital in Lake Nona and announced it had enlisted more than 150 health-care business experts, clinicians, architects and individuals to help design the project.
Companies selected to work on the project, expected to break ground early next year, include Perkins+Will, a Boston health-care architecture and pediatric design firm that has completed projects for more than 500 medical institutions; Stanley Beaman & Sears, an Atlanta firm that specializes in interiors and architectural facilities for children’s hospitals and outpatient centers; IDEO, a Palo Alto, Calif., innovation and design firm; and Skanska USA Building Inc., which will oversee construction.
Nemours’ Lake Nona site, which will include a hospital, outpatient clinic, ambulatory surgery center and other supporting facilities on a 60-acre parcel, will not only be child-friendly but environmentally sensitive, Nemours officials said. They predicted it would be awarded the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification.
The Nemours campus at Lake Nona’s “medical city” is expected to open in early 2012.
