St. Johns to Show Off Mobile Health Unit

The St. Johns County Health Department soon will debut its new mobile medical unit.

The 40-foot vehicle will make four appearances next week, probably for health fairs. The schedule for those events is expected today.

A medical team will check blood pressure and hand out information on preventing health problems , spokesman Ray Hewett said.

Meanwhile, Hewett said the department will decide exactly what to do with the mobile medical unit.

It's equipped for dental exams and could offer school physicals and immunizations, but it's not yet clear for what it will be used .

The Health Department hadn't finalized plans for the unit because it arrived three weeks earlier than expected, Hewett said.

The medical vehicle also is also equipped to aid in response to emergencies, such as hurricanes.

St. Johns County had a mobile unit more than a year ago, but the Health Department is excited to have one now that's newer and more reliable, Hewett said.
