MILFORD, Mich., July 2 /PRNewswire/ -- The legacy of caring begun 29 years ago by a small group of friends has grown to become one of the area's most significant Summer fundraisers, thanks to the enthusiastic support of women who see the value in helping fund childcare for low-income families just starting out.
The 29th annual Twilight Gathering, hosted by the Women's Caring Program (WCP), is slated for Thursday, July 10 from 5:30-8 p.m. at the home of WCP President Carol Walters in Milford. Begun as a party on her front porch, the event now attracts more than 800 women to the grounds of her Milford farm.
In addition to a gourmet meal prepared by Chef Mary Brady and beer and wine poured by a team of men who pay for the honor of serving the women, attendees have a lot of fun bidding on hundreds of silent auction items. More than 80 corporate donors, led by General Motors, typically support the event.
"Thanks to funds raised at the Twilight Gathering, we are able to fulfill our mission of becoming a national model for supporting children and families on the road to independence through early childhood education," said Carol Walters, WCP president.
The Childcare Commitment Program, now in its 10th year, offers one-time awards to assist families in need that are ineligible for child care assistance from the State of Commitment. WCP provides families with 40 percent of the annual cost of childcare, up to a maximum of $2,280 per family per year.
Tickets are $100 in advance and $125 at the door. Corporate and individual donations are accepted. For information and to purchase tickets, telephone (248) 415-1442, email rsvp@womenscaringprogram.org or visit http://www.womenscaringprogram.org/.
