Eclipsys Corporation(R) (NASDAQ: ECLP), The Outcomes Company(R), today announced that North Memorial Health Care, Inc. (North Memorial), Robbinsdale, MN, has selected Eclipsys' laboratory information solution (LIS) to streamline enterprise efficiencies and communication across inpatient and outpatient settings, as well as enhance the service capabilities of its extensive reference laboratory business that serves the state of Minnesota and western Wisconsin.
Eclipsys Head and Shoulders Above the Rest
According to Sharon Jackson, director, Laboratory at North Memorial, the hospital's internal review process identified Eclipsys as head and shoulders above other available market options in terms of functionality, vision and customer collaboration.
"Eighty percent of all pertinent data used in clinical decision making flows through our hospital's laboratory, so we consider this technology initiative vital to our goal of optimizing productivity, care team communications and patient outcomes," said Jackson. "By selecting the integrated general laboratory, microbiology, anatomic pathology and blood bank modules of Sunrise Laboratory, we can significantly enhance care giver workflow and efficiency and the quality of care we provide our patients."
Plans call for North Memorial to deploy Sunrise Laboratory(TM), Eclipsys comprehensive laboratory information solution, including its PowerBANK(TM) module, a U.S. FDA-approved complete blood bank/transfusion solution, to integrate the blood bank into laboratory operations. Once deployed, Sunrise Laboratory will help North Memorial provide a full range of laboratory services across the organization, paving the way for improved patient safety, operational efficiency and reduced delays in care delivery.
A Solution to Support Business Growth
"In addition to the clinical benefits, we selected Eclipsys for its proven ability to deliver an integrated solution with capabilities to support our efforts to achieve reference laboratory growth mandates across the region," said Pat Taffe, vice president, Information Services and chief information officer at North Memorial. "We believe Eclipsys shares our commitment to clinical excellence and has a keen focus on collaboration. We were impressed with the level of client involvement in the development of Sunrise Laboratory. This helped convince us that we were selecting an information technology partner that meets our needs today and will continue to do so in the future."
Jay Deady, Eclipsys executive vice president of Client Solutions, stated that "We are proud to partner with North Memorial as it works to create a more connected and informed care delivery environment. The laboratory is the hub of clinical decisions, and for many hospitals, it is a key area for organizational growth and financial performance. We designed Sunrise Laboratory with extensive input from clients seeking a solution that would successfully facilitate increased productivity, higher quality, increased patient safety and enhanced revenue from laboratory services."
Available as an LIS for either a hospital or a stand-alone laboratory, Sunrise Laboratory is a flexible solution that enables healthcare organizations to provide a full range of laboratory services internally or to an outreach population. By connecting the laboratory to units across the hospital, Sunrise Laboratory will deliver critical lab results to North Memorial clinicians as an integrated part of the electronic medical record. The solution offers Web-based access to complete lab orders, results, reports, laboratory supplies, and includes enhanced quality control and quality assurance processes. In addition, an integrated dashboard will let clinicians monitor laboratory operations. A specimen-tracking system that focuses on the receipt of the specimen and location of the specimen for easy retrieval, accompanied by inventory supply management, workload measurement, courier and phlebotomy management, will also help the healthcare system improve efficiency and reduce turnaround time.
