Freed Hostage Gets Medical Check-Up

Former Colombian hostage Ingrid Betancourt checked into a Paris hospital for medical tests Saturday after being freed in a daring jungle rescue.

The medical check-up was to make sure Betancourt, 46, wasn't suffering any health complications after six years in the South American jungle as a captive of the country's FARC rebels, the BBC reported.

Concerns about Betancourt's health had emerged several months ago after pictures were released showed her looking frail, possibly suffering from hepatitis.

Betancourt, a native of France, was a former Colombian presidential candidate. She and 14 other FARC captives were freed after their captors were apparently tricked into handing them over to army personnel disguised as independent agency staff.

No ransom was paid to FARC members as part of the rescue, Colombian government officials told the British network.
