World-Class Cancer Care

With the opening of the new Northern Centre for Cancer Care Newcastle is building on its international reputation for world- class cancer treatment.

Back in 1948, Newcastle was identified as a premier centre in the UK for cancer care and received one of the very first radiotherapy machines. Today, we continue to be at the forefront of pioneering treatment.

A cancer diagnosis is a hugely stressful time for patients and their families. Newcastle’s new Northern Centre for Cancer Care (NCCC), due to open later this year, will lead the way in the UK by being the first cancer centre to offer US-style care.

State-of-the-art facilities include both the UK’s first Primatom – an extremely precise scanner that lets us target cancer cells quickly and accurately – and a TomoTherapy machine that combines scanning and treatment, allowing us to treat previously inoperable cancers with reduced side-effects – one of only two such machines available in the entire NHS. This investment in leading-edge techniques continues our commitment to giving our patients the very best possible chance of beating cancer.
