Mary Washington Hospital Selects Patient Care Technology Systems’ Automatic Patient and Asset Tracking Solution for Emergency Department
Patient Care Technology Systems (PCTS), a subsidiary of Consulier Engineering, Inc. (NASDAQ: CSLR), today announced that Mary Washington Hospital (MWH) has selected the company's Amelior EDTracker(R) software to automatically track patients and assets in its over 100,000 census emergency department. The software will use ultrasound locating from PCTS partner Sonitor Technologies and will be integrated with an upgraded release of PCTS's Amelior ED(R) documentation system which has provided computer-based patient tracking and clinical charting in MWH's emergency department since 2002.
Unlike traditional patient tracking software, Amelior EDTracker works with leading real-time location technologies including ultrasound, infrared, active-RFID, and Wi-Fi to passively capture real-time location information. Wireless patient, staff and asset tags communicate their real-time location to a network of sensors positioned throughout the department. The PCTS automatic tracking software receives this information and applies ED-specific workflow rules which measure location, movement and interactions between patients, staff and clinical equipment in order to identify and communicate patient care milestones as they occur. Caregivers utilize configurable map and status view screens within Amelior EDTracker to anticipate and manage their workflow. All patient movement is automatically measured and time-stamped which is accessible through the software's extensive workflow reporting tool.
Mary Washington Hospital has used the Amelior ED system to manage patient flow in its emergency department since 2002. During this time, visits to MWH's emergency department have risen significantly. In 2007, the department treated over 100,000 patient visits making it one of the busiest departments in Virginia. In its initial year since deploying Amelior ED, emergency department expenses for transcription services were reduced by over half a million dollars as a result of more than a 90% decrease in dictation usage. Earlier this year, PCTS announced that the Amelior ED system has been used by its customers to support over one million emergency department patient visits to date.
"Mary Washington Hospital's emergency department was an early adopter of electronic medical records to improve workflow efficiency and to address rising patient volumes," said Tony Marsico, CEO of PCTS. "Integrating automatic patient and asset tracking as part of their ED information system configuration reflects their continued focus on leveraging intelligent workflow automation technologies to provide the best possible patient experience."
Amelior EDTracker and Amelior ED are part of PCTS's suite of intelligent workflow automation solutions. Companion systems provide automatic patient and asset tracking for perioperative suites and enterprise-wide entity locating.
