A Border-Free Collaboration for Natural Health
Posted on: Wednesday, 9 July 2008, 09:00 CDT
When it comes to natural health products research, Biotanika and the National Research Council Canada (NRC) are reaching beyond borders. They have signed a collaborative research agreement bridging expertise from a private company and a federal R&D organization, and involving teams drawn from Quebec and Prince Edward Island.
The public-private, interprovincial collaboration will also bring together nature's true potential. Under the terms of the agreement, experts at the NRC Institute for Nutrisciences and Health will conduct research to identify novel synergistic activities in multi-herb formulations. This work will help the company develop products for use in the management of pain and inflammation.
"We are proud to collaborate with the NRC Institute for Nutrisciences and Health in bringing an innovative and highly credible approach to the nutraceutical market," said Benoit Cote, President and CEO of Biotanika. "Our promise is to provide safe and efficient alternative products to prescription drugs and with such a world-renowned collaborator as NRC we feel confident in achieving our goals," concluded Benoit Cote.
"Helping translate health research into practical applications is an important way that NRC assists Canadian companies like Biotanika," said Dr. Pierre Coulombe, NRC President. "NRC's collaboration with Biotanika will contribute to the scientific community's understanding of the potential benefits of natural bioactive ingredients."
Canadians want to know that natural health products are effective, safe and of high quality. The research is expected to produce intellectual property for safe natural health products based on multiple herbs.
