Health Officials Await Food-Test Results in Illnesses

Jul. 9–OSCEOLA COUNTY
Health officials are investigating an illness that sent nine people to the hospital during a modeling competition at the Gaylord Palms Resort & Convention Center during the weekend. The Osceola County Department of Health is awaiting test results from food served during a banquet attended by about 1,500 people. A spokesman for Gaylord Palms said the hotel is cooperating with the health department but, based on interviews with guests, said they “suspect that it wasn’t food-borne.” The hotel’s kitchen met standards during an inspection Monday but logged five critical violations, including storing food on the floor. The majority of the violations were corrected on-site, health reports indicated.
