Stanford House Kicks Off Donation Drive
By Gainesville Daily Register, Texas
Jul. 9–Every year, the Stanford House kicks off its annual donation drive. The senior center holds an auction, a garage sale, a luncheon and a drawing for a new Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck in mid September purchased from Brown Motor Company.
This is the ninth year for the donation drive which officially begins with a hot dog luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, July 14 at the center and banana splits served between 1 and 3 p.m.
Gainesville Health and Rehabilitation Center, Hometown Pharmacies and IntegraCare of Gainesville plan to provide the hot dogs and the banana split ingredients.
“It’s just a way for these agencies to show their support,” said Stanford House executive director Carolyn Castleberry.
Aaron Terrel of Gainesville Health and Rehabilitation Center is scheduled to provide music for the event, and the food is free.
Fund-raising events are vital to the center, she added.
“The donation drive is our major fund raiser for the operations of the Stanford House,” she said.
Stanford House is a non-profit senior citizens center completed in 1992. The center was built with an endowment from the Mattie Belle Stanford Charitable Trust.
But the trust only provided for the building.
Paying the bills and sponsoring activities, fellowship and educational presentations for citizens aged 55 or older takes ongoing work.
“The trust wasn’t large to fund the activities for the center,” Castleberry noted.
Stanford House holds other fund raisers each year including a popular all-men style show.
Stanford House is located at 401 W. Garnett St.
