With threats of pandemics, bioterrorism and catastrophic natural disasters ever present, Tenon Consulting Solutions, Inc. is working with a growing number of city and county governments across the United States to develop and implement collaborative public/private emergency response solutions.
Tenon Consulting announced today that the firm has been selected to lead public/private emergency management initiatives in Baltimore, Md. and St. Louis, Mo. Tenon is working with The Greater Baltimore Committee and the Baltimore City Health Department and the St. Louis County Department of Health.
In these efforts, Tenon is developing a framework of capabilities that supports pharmaceutical mass dispensing and distribution solutions that coordinate the resources of government agencies and private organizations. These solutions enable communities to rapidly distribute needed medications to residents in the event of large-scale emergencies like pandemic flu.
Anthony D. Begando, Tenon's CEO, said, "Our work in St. Louis and Baltimore focuses on resolving gaps in public sector response capabilities by forming solutions that leverage existing resources within the private sector. This includes forming large-scale logistics support networks, allocating facilities, mobilizing volunteer labor and obtaining emergency supplies and equipment. Our work with major metropolitan areas is gratifying because we are helping communities stand ready to take action - and ultimately save lives."
Dr. Michael Williams, director of the Division of Communicable Disease Control and Emergency Preparedness for St. Louis County, along with many public health experts worldwide, believe there is an increasing likelihood of an influenza pandemic.
"We selected Tenon based on their 'hands-on' experience developing unique public/private emergency response solutions in other communities. They will enhance the capacity of St. Louis County to respond to the challenges of an influenza pandemic to ensure the safety of our residents," said Williams.
Utilizing an "all hazards" approach, Tenon has developed a suite of robust, innovative solutions that facilitates various types of collaborative public/private emergency disaster responses. The model matches the needs identified by public agencies with private sector organizations that can provide capabilities across all industries, significantly reducing the time and effort required to restore communities to a functional state.
The new engagements, along with additional efforts in Los Angeles, further Tenon's work developing public/private solutions in collaboration with leading corporations, academic institutions, industrial and trade associations, and public health and emergency management organizations across multiple levels of government.
In Georgia, Tenon partnered with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Emory University, Georgia Division of Public Health, Business Executives for National Security, Georgia Emergency Management Agency and more than 40 Atlanta-area private sector organizations in the successful demonstration of a large-scale public/private bio-terrorism response program. The drill, performed across five metropolitan Atlanta counties, utilized private sector resources to form an effective pharmaceutical mass dispensing operation. This confirmed that private organizations could greatly enhance overall community response to an emergency situation like an anthrax attack.
