Jul. 11–THREE DALLAS HOSPITALS — Baylor, Parkland, and UT Southwestern — have made U.S. News & World Report’s annual list of “America’s Best.”

The publication, which hits newsstands Monday, ranks hospitals in 16 specialty areas. The rankings are based on reputation, mortality rate and care-related factors, such as patient services and the quality of nurses.

Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas ranked among the top 50 in five specialty areas: kidney disease (No. 30), endocrinology (32), orthopedics (33), gynecology (35) and respiratory care (35).

“Is very gratifying when our services are recognized by our peers for the quality care that patients receive from our staff and physicians,” said Dr. Irving Prengler, vice president of medical affairs at Baylor.

The Baylor Institute for Rehabilitation also made the grade, as the 13th best institution of its type in the nation.

The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center was honored in four areas: neurology and neurosurgery (18), urology (25), kidney disease (36) and gynecology (48).

“These specialty rankings are largely a reflection of the superb reputation UT Southwestern physicians have both regionally and nationally,” said Dr. John McConnell, executive vice president for health system affairs.

“Our physicians, nurses and administrative team are totally dedicated to quality and the very best patient outcomes.”

Parkland Memorial Hospital’s gynecological care ranked 14th.

In addition to the Dallas hospitals on this year’s list, last year’s U.S. News rankings included Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas, which came in 41st in neurology and neurosurgery.
