The Nation's Health's new Web site features full issues of the newspaper, online-only content and a search engine.
APHA members looking for the latest public health news can find it on The Nation's Health's newly redesigned Web site.
The user-friendly site, online at
Visitors to The Nation's Health Web site can now browse articles by newspaper department, public health topic or issue date. The new site includes a Question of the Month that highlights public health facts as well as a site map to allow easy navigation.
While most of the site is password-protected and can only be accessed by APHA members, some features are available to all Web users, including more than a dozen online public health news stories each month, information on new public health media and the paper's Newsmakers in Public Health section.
Web users can also access articles that fall under APHA's three main priority areas: access to care, infrastructure and health disparities by using the "View Options" pull-down menu. Users can also use the "View Options" menu to select stories that fall under more than 70 public health topic areas, such as chronic disease, violence, human rights, child health and obesity.
The Nation's Health Web site includes stories from each of the paper's news departments - such as Affiliates, sections and Student Focus - as well as an advanced search engine that allows users to search by issue date, keyword or news department.
The new site currently includes about a year's worth of issues of the newspaper in its searchable database as well as links to issues dating to August 2000. All of the available past issues are expected to be moved into the new database within the next year.
Because The Nation's Health Web site is part of the larger APHA Web site, APHA member passwords can be used to access all of the site's features. Plans are under way to allow subscribers to have access to the Web site sometime in the future.
The newspaper has no plans to discontinue its print edition, which is mailed to more than 31,000 readers each month. In addition to APHA members, the paper is sent to subscribers, the media and every member of Congress.
"The Nation's Health print edition is the only APHA benefit that reaches every Association member, 31 regardless of their membership category or whether they have computer access," said Michele Late, executive editor of The Nation's Health. "The new site complements this proven avenue for advocating for public health."
