SAN DIEGO, July 15, 2008 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- American Specialty Health Incorporated (ASH), one of the nation's leading health improvement organizations, announced that it has once again been awarded full accreditation for its Health Plan, Health Network with Credentialing, Health Utilization Management, and Claims Processing programs from URAC, a Washington, DC-based health care accrediting organization that establishes quality standards for the health care industry.
The reaccreditation includes ASH's chiropractic, acupuncture, massage therapy, naturopathy, and dietetic counseling programs. URAC's Health Plan and Health Network accreditation standards include key quality benchmarks for network management, provider credentialing, utilization management, quality management, and improvement and consumer protection. The aim of the Health Utilization Management (UM) standards is to ensure that organizations conducting utilization review follow a process that is clinically sound and respects patients' and providers' rights while giving payors reasonable guidelines to follow. The Claims Processing accreditation process validates that standards are met in areas such as accuracy, timeliness, notification to claimants, and quality monitoring.
"Our commitment to following URAC compliance standards has never wavered, and we are proud to have URAC reaccredit some of our most important lines of business," said ASH chairman and CEO George DeVries. "A continued recognition from URAC shows our customers that ASH is dedicated to providing only the most trustworthy health programs."
"American Specialty Health should be commended for meeting strict quality standards," said Alan P. Spielman, URAC president and CEO. "It is critically important for health care organizations to make a commitment to quality and accountability. URAC accreditation is a demonstration of that commitment."
URAC, an independent, nonprofit organization, is a leader in promoting health care quality through accreditation and certification programs. URAC's standards keep pace with the rapid changes in the health care system, and provide a mark of distinction for health care organizations to demonstrate their commitment to quality and accountability. Through its broad-based governance structure and an inclusive standards development process, URAC ensures that all stakeholders are represented in setting meaningful standards for the health care industry.
