Arizona Fire Department Receives Prestigious Vidacare(R) Heroes Award

Vidacare, the leading developer, manufacturer and marketer of advanced intraosseous (IO) technology, is proud to announce the winner of the June Vidacare Heroes Campaign award. The city of Goodyear, Ariz. Fire Department was named a Vidacare Hero because of the team's swift use of Vidacare's breakthrough EZ-IO(R) technology, resulting in the lives of two children being saved. The EZ-IO allows physicians, paramedics and other medical professionals to access the interior of the bone (the intraosseous space) quickly and effectively, to administer life-saving fluids and medications to the circulatory system, when IVs are difficult or time-consuming.

Two pediatric cardiac arrest saves in a short period of time are extremely rare, and can be attributed to the department's training and use of the EZ-IO. Here's a brief scenario of the cases which led to this award:

-- A 14-year-old female in cardiac arrest - the team immediately initiated CPR and placed an EZ-IO line to deliver life-saving medications. She regained a pulse and was taken to a hospital where she was in stable condition and expected to do well.

-- A 7-month-old male in cardiac arrest - the team was able to resuscitate the infant by administering one dose of Epinephrine through an EZ-IO line placed in the lower leg. He was transported to a hospital and eventually discharged in good health.

Vidacare(R) recently launched the 2008 Heroes Campaign to recognize emergency professionals and acknowledge our unsung heroes who act quickly and effectively to obtain vascular access with the EZ-IO(R) product system.

A.J. Heightman, the editor of Journal of Emergency Medical Services, judges each month's award submissions. One emergency service provider per month will be recognized as the Vidacare Hero. At the end of the year, one Ultimate Vidacare Hero will be chosen from the monthly winners. The Ultimate Vidacare Hero will be able to select an emergency services student in his or her community to receive the Vidacare Intraosseous (IO) Scholarship worth $2,000.

Vidacare urges emergency medical personnel, including EMTs, paramedics, flight medics, fire fighters, emergency physicians and emergency nurses to nominate colleagues via an entry form on the company website: www.vidacare.com. Entries should describe how the emergency responder used the EZ-IO to gain vascular access and the outcome of the event.
