By JULIA HORTON

FROM the age of 25 Sioban Calwell knew that her chances of having children were low after being diagnosed with endometriosis.

After operations to remove cysts from her ovaries, doctors urged her to consider fertility treatment to stand a chance of falling pregnant.

Now 37, she is the mother of three boys whose existence she credits to acupuncture, IVF and a healthy lifestyle.

Four-year-old twins Shay and Arun followed the first two interventions, while 16-month old Fionn was conceived with no medical help As a nurse in Glasgow, she had a greater medical background than most mothers.

Her experience cemented her belief in the view expressed by fertility experts in Edinburgh last night that alternative therapies, diet and exercise all help She said: “After the twins I felt so lucky and I wasn’t thinking about having more children. I decided to get into exercise a bit more and living quite a healthy life. I was training for a half-marathon when I was told I was pregnant again “When I went through a cycle of IVF I did not have huge expectations.

“I wanted to do everything I could to help the situation I was not doing too well when I started having acupuncture, and within a few days there was a massive difference “
