Ice Star Jenna Joins in Down at the Gym

ICE-SKATING star Jenna McCorkell is enjoying having some company as she works out at a Coventry gym.

As the number one British female figure skater, Jenna is fast becoming a legend after winning the title for the past three years.

And after the thrill but inevitable isolation of performing alone, Jenna is enjoying joining in classes at the gym.

Right now all the 18-year-old has to worry about is keeping in trim for the Olympic qualifying competition in Vienna in October.

She still has to practise three times a day with her Russian coach Yuri Bureiko, director of the International School of Skating at the Skydome's Planet Ice.

But thanks to an offer of sponsorship from the Esporta Health and Racquets Club at Whitley, Jenna and 10 other members of the city's international skating team are able to enjoy free fitness workouts.

She said: "I've really loved all the classes I've attended.

"Especially the one for fun dance where last week the teacher showed us all some routines from the musical Chicago.

"I'm also planning to try Pilates and will definitely have a go at body pump and body attack."

James Nuttall, senior membership consultant at Esporta, called round to say hello to Irish-born Jenna and Yuri, who in 1981 was the silver medalist in the junior world figure-skating championships.

He said: "We're happy to support the work of the international school of skating and the Skydome, and hope our new and existing members will be inspired by all the team's commitment to fitness."
