Nurse Cautioned Over Treatment
A MERSEYSIDE nurse who manhandled an elderly patient has been cautioned by a nursing watchdog.
Robert Starling Quaye, 58, of Wirral, appeared before a conduct panel of the Nursing and Midwifery Council over his treatment of an elderly woman at a care home in Stockport on June 29, 2005.
The mental health nurse, who has 34 years’ experience, faced a catalogue of allegations, including that he got hold of the resident’s upper arms and, while facing her, told her to “sit down”
This week, Quaye was given a 12-month caution order and his fitness to practice was said to be “impaired”, which means his employers will have to be informed.
The watchdog said Quaye was given that sanction because he had expressed remorse about what had happened.
They also said since then, he has worked in similarly high- pressured and demanding environments without complaint.
Glowing testimonials described Quaye as “a popular and dedicated practitioner.”
