Hunter Education Classes Announced

Jul. 20--The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks has released the schedule of hunter education classes in District Six.All classes are free. Participants are required to attend the entire class and pass a written examination.
Hunter education is mandatory for all persons born on or after Jan. 1, 1972 and who plan to purchase a Mississippi hunting license.
For information on the seating availability of upcoming classes, call the Wiggins District 6 field office of the Miss. Dept. of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks (601-928-3720).
Here are the dates, location and times for courses in the Coastal counties:
In Harrison County, Pleasant Hill Baptist Church on U.S. 49 in Saucier; Sept. 12 (6-9 p.m.), Sept. 13 (9 a.m.-4 p.m.), Oct. 10 (6-9 p.m.), Oct. 11 (9 a.m.-4 p.m.), Nov. 7 (6-9 p.m.), Nov. 8 (9 a.m.-4 p.m.); instructors are Glenn Hickman and Bruce Jones; call 601-928-3720.
Also in Harrison,Camp Wilkes Boy Scout Camp on Camp Wilkes Rd. in Biloxi; Sept. 9-11 (6:30-10 p.m.), Oct. 14-16 (6:30-10 p.m.), Nov. 11-13 (6:30-10 p.m.); instructor is Eves Vincent; call 392-5150.

Recreational snapper -- The Mississippi Dept. of Marine Resources announced the recreational fishing season for red snapper closes in Mississippi territorial waters on Tuesday, Aug. 5, at 12:01 a.m. This coincides with the closing of red snapper season in federal waters.
Carl Legett -- The 14th annual Carl H. Legett Memorial Fishing Tournament will be Aug. 1-3 at Point Cadet Marina.
Fishing categories include speckled trout, red fish, flounder, black fish, red snapper, amberjack, cobia, king mackerel, dolphin, wahoo and tuna.
Fishermen can register at Home Builders Association MS Coast, Bailey Lumber & Supply, West Marine, Milner Rental Centers, Gorenflo's Tackle & Marina Store, and Ocean Marine. For more details, call 896-7646.
