Bookendsgetting Ready For Ishmael Beah’s Talk Authors Appearing At Stores, Library Poets, Writers, Readers Adventures In Nature
In anticipation of the appearance of Ishmael Beah, author of A Long Way Gone: Adventures of a Boy Soldier at Millersville University, the League of Women Voters of Lancaster County has arranged for a discussion of his book.
It will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, at Stauffer Mansion, 1241 Lititz Pike, with the assistance of Manheim Township Public Library. The free, public discussion will be led by school librarian Sharon Shuman.

MU’s incoming freshman class is reading Beah’s book, which is based on his years as a child soldier in Sierra Leone. The LWVLC is one of the sponsors of his free, public lecture, set for 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8, in Lyte Auditorium at MU.
Beah, who was born in 1980, eventually went to a UNICEF rehabilitation center. In 1998, he started working on his high school diploma at the United Nations International School in New York and he received a bachelor’s degree in political science from Oberlin College in 2004. He is a member of the Human Rights Watch Children’s Rights Division Advisory Committee.

Ojama Edeh Herr, a West Hempfield Township resident, will discuss and sign her book, Ojama’s Song: Becoming a Woman Nigerian Style, at 6 p.m. Saturday, July 26, at Borders Book Shop, 940 Plaza Blvd.
The author calls her 94-page book an inspirational memoir that details how my faith in God and my determination never to give up helped me to accomplish my dreams.

It will be Christmas in July 1-3 p.m. Sunday, July 27, at Aaron’s Book Corner, 43 S. Broad St., Lititz, when former Lititz resident Pam Chellemi-Yeagar reads from and signs her debut novel, The First Day Of Christmas.
Her fast-paced mystery features former homicide detective Mick Christmas. Two years ago, a 14-year-old was found dead of an overdose, an enigmatic tattoo etched on her breast. Though the death was ruled an accident, Mick, who worked the case, believes otherwise. Though Mick wants nothing more than to work on his dairy farm, the dead girl’s mother is being stalked and a local debutante, involved with the same New Age cult as the dead girl, goes missing.
The author now lives in Charlotte, N.C. Her book, priced at $12.95, was published by Terradan Works. A portion of the proceeds from this event will be donated to Disciples United Community Church of Lancaster.
