Port Arthur Business Shows Its Support for Children’s Hospital
By David Ball, The Port Arthur News, Texas
Jul. 22–PORT ARTHUR — Kathy Buchanan of Allen Mini Storage said helping children is the best feeling one can have.
“I would do anything for a child,” she said.
Likewise, the Texas Self Storage Association launched the Make a Difference statewide campaign to emphasize the contributions made by self storage owners in their communities and to highlight the partnership with Shriners Children Hospital in Galveston.
Allen Mini Storage and the Texas Self Storage Association, TSSA, have supported the work of the hospital for the past seven years. Donations to the hospital surpassed the $100,000 mark in 2007.
Donations to the TSSA Make a Difference campaign will be accepted at Allen Mini Storage, 8221 Ninth Ave. until September 30. All proceeds go directly to the Shriners Hospital.
The 2008 TSSA Make a Difference campaign will end at the annual convention from November 9-12 in San Antonio with a Texas Hold ‘Em Charity Poker Tournament and silent auction.
According to the Web site, the Shriners Hospital is a one-of-a-kind international health care system of 22 hospitals dedicated to improving the lives of children by providing specialty pediatric care, innovative research and outstanding teaching programs.
Children up to the age of 18 with orthopedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries and cleft lip and palate are eligible for admission and receive all care in a family-centered environment at no charge — regardless of financial need.
