Condition of Gee’s Son-in-Law Deteriorates
By Encarnacion Pyle, The Columbus Dispatch, Ohio
Jul. 24–Two days after Rebekah Gee was flown to Ohio State University for medical care, she returned to Philadelphia last night because her husband’s condition had worsened.
OSU President E. Gordon Gee canceled two appearances yesterday so he could go with her on a medical helicopter.
Dr. Rebekah Gee and Dr. Allan Moore were injured July 12 when their scooter collided with a sport-utility vehicle in Philadelphia.
Moore, 31, has been in a coma at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania since the crash. He had suffered broken bones and abdominal and head injuries, and he was fighting pneumonia. His condition had been upgraded to serious this week but was back to critical yesterday.
Rebekah Gee, 32, suffered broken bones and head trauma in the collision. She was transferred to OSU Medical Center on Monday to continue her rehabilitation in Columbus. She was expected to remain in the hospital for at least eight weeks, with a full recovery to take six months.
She is an obstetrician-gynecologist and a Robert Wood Johnson clinical scholar at the University of Pennsylvania Medical School. Moore is a fellow in endocrinology and practices internal medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, where the couple met as medical residents.
They married in 2006.
