TB Alert for 700 Hospital Patients

May 11, 2005

MORE than 700 former hospital patients have been sent letters warning them to be on the lookout for symptoms of tuberculosis after a health worker was diagnosed with the disease.

The victim, who worked at the Lister Hospital in Stevenage, Hertfordshire, is being treated there for the disease.

Screenings at the time the unidentified worker was hired last November were negative. But the person sought advice after showing TB symptoms in the last week.

The East and North Herts NHS Trust said the 713 alerted had been patients between January and May.

The letter reads: ‘We consider your risk to be extremely low.’
