AUBURN – The Auburn-Lewiston YMCA will launch the latest segment of its new program, Group Power, during the week of Aug. 4 with six free classes open to members and nonmembers.

The summer ’08 launch week will feature new music, new exercises and new programming as the YMCA continues to develop the first nationally certified program in Maine and New Hampshire.

Group Power is a 60-minute barbell program that strengthens major muscles in a motivating group environment with music and nationally certified instructors. With simple, athletic movements such as squats, lunges, presses and curls, Group Power is for all ages and fitness levels.

“This program has created an incredible amount of participation among our members with lots of positive feedback,” said YMCA wellness director Tish Caldwell. “One of the great things about Group Power is that we are always launching a fresh and exciting new set of classes. This keeps all of our instructors and participants motivated and makes for an invigorating workout. Group Power is a challenging yet achievable program that is ideal for people of all ages and fitness levels.”

The YMCA will start the summer ’08 launch program on Monday, Aug. 4. There are six classes that are free and open to the public.

Participants must register a day prior to each class by stopping by the YMCA or calling 795-4095. The free one-hour class times are as follows: Monday, Aug. 4, 5:45 a.m. and 5:15 p.m.; Tuesday, Aug. 5, noon and 6:30 p.m.; Wednesday, Aug. 6, 9 a.m.; Friday, Aug 8, 4 p.m.
