Groom’s Family’s Vigil at Bedside

The distraught parents of a bridegroom whose new wife was murdered on their honeymoon will return to his bedside in Antigua today.

Benjamin Mullany, 31, is fighting for his life in hospital after being shot in an apparent botched robbery and may not be aware that his bride, Catherine Mullany, is dead.

Their parents arrived at the Caribbean island’s Holberton Hospital yesterday afternoon.

Mr Mullany’s parents, Marilyn and Cynlais, and his wife’s parents, Rachel and David Bowen, clutched each other as they visited the hospital’s intensive care unit.

A nurse at the hospital’s intensive care unit confirmed Mr Mullany was “critical”, and said there had been no improvement.

The couple had been on the last day of their holiday when at least one gunman burst into their hotel cottage on Sunday.
