Stephenie Meyer, author of the “Twilight” series, has been called the next J.K. Rowling.

“The kids are looking for something to replace ‘Harry Potter,’” said Linda Herget of Cheyenne’s Barnes and Noble Booksellers. “They’ve grown up with him, and they’re looking for something out of the ordinary that’s magical from the middle to the end. These are all like that, and they’re a teen romance with a twist.”

The series’ twist involves a young woman falling in love with a vampire boy.

At 12:01 a.m. on Aug. 2 Barnes and Noble Booksellers of Cheyenne will start selling copies of “Breaking Dawn” – Meyer’s last book in her “Twilight” series.

But beginning at 8 p.m. on Aug. 1, local “Twilight” fans can come celebrate the release at the Vampire Prom Night.

“It’s a costume release party for the fourth book in the ‘Twilight’ saga,” Herget said. “The party will be like the ‘Harry Potter’ party.”

Young people are invited to wear prom or vampire attire – anything that has to do with the series.

“The party is for teens and adults because the book is a teen book,” Herget said. “But we won’t turn kids away.”
