Circus theme

The Plaza District at 1706 NW 16th St. has teamed up with the Creative Communities program to present a circus-themed exhibition on the Plaza Friday from 6 until 10 p.m.

The circus theme will be spotlighted in works of artworks and sculptures created by children at Ambassador Courts, a public housing community on SW 15th street.

The Creative Communities program, facilitated by City Arts Center and the Oklahoma Housing Authority, provides arts education opportunities to public housing sights. The program offers children a chance to create art, engage in positive mentorship and expand their educational experience. The project this summer has been creating circus theme artworks.

At the exhibition, visitors will be able to view the artwork of the students, plus make art supply donations to the program. After viewing this exhibition, attendees will be able to visit other Plaza businesses and galleries.

Orchid awards

Herman and LaDonna Meinders will be the honorees at the Orchids in October luncheon at the Myriad Botanical Gardens Water Stage. Sponsored by and benefiting the Myriad Botanical Gardens Foundation, the luncheon on Oct. 2 will be in conjunction with the annual Orchids in October Fall Celebration at the Gardens when the exotic plants not only will be view in the Crystal Bridge but also be for sale.

Co-chairing the luncheon are James Morley and Lynn Roberson. Patron co-chairs are Michael S. Laird and Robert H. Meinders. James A. Pickel is president of the foundation board.

The Meinders’ philanthropic projects are many and include the gardens, where they made possible the creation of a series of intensely landscaped areas covering much of the northeast quadrant of the gardens. He founded American Floral Services in 1970.
