Adimab, Inc., a biotechnology company developing an integrated yeast-based antibody discovery and maturation platform, today announced the appointment of Joanne Sun, Ph.D. as Director of Protein Analytics and High Throughput Purification.

Dr. Sun comes to Adimab after building the analytical infrastructure for supporting Phase III clinical trials and the BLA filing for Angiocept, the first product from Adnexus Therapeutics, a Bristol-Myers Squibb R&D company.

Prior to Adnexus and Bristol-Myers Squibb, Dr. Sun led the analytical development function at Abbott Laboratories responsible for providing analytical support from pre-clinical development to launch for Abbot’s Biologics portfolio. Dr. Sun supported the launch of Humira from clinical development to filing and commercialization in both the United States and Europe, amongst other products.

“Joanne’s deep background in therapeutic protein development will be a major asset to Adimab,” says Adimab co-founder and Dartmouth professor Tillman Gerngross, Ph.D.

“Joanne will have a broad impact across the organization, from antigen intake and characterization to establishing criteria by which selected antibodies are rank ordered. Finding antibodies that bind to specific targets is the easy part – finding an antibody that formulates well, expresses well, doesn’t aggregate, etc. is a whole new game. Joanne will be intimately involved in setting those criteria,” Dr. Gerngross elaborated.

“Dr. Sun brings strong analytical rigor to our human antibody discovery team. Her experience with state-of-the-art biophysical characterization of biopharmaceuticals will integrate sophisticated quality control and selection criteria with Adimab’s discovery capabilities,” adds Dane Wittrup, Ph.D., Adimab co-founder and MIT professor.

“I am most impressed by the innovative approach Adimab is employing to develop an integrated yet unique technology platform, with freedom to operate in this heavily patented area,” says Dr. Sun. “I am fascinated by the great company culture and the productivity of the team and am very pleased to join Adimab.”
