Magee-Womens Gets $1 Million From Foundation
The Heinz Endowments has awarded $1 million in grants to Magee- Womens Hospital of UPMC to pay for environmental initiatives at the hospital and throughout the hospital system, UPMC said today.
“We believe it is our obligation to be a role model for hospitals in environmental stewardship,” Leslie C. Davis, president of Magee- Womens Hospital and UPMC vice president for women’s services, said in a news release.
The hospital is collaborating with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Physicians for Social Responsibility and others to provide information to obstetrical care providers so they can educate patients about environmental health risks and their affect on pregnancy.
With Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, Magee is creating an instructional video on ways to improve health and make better environmental choices. Outreach will target school children.
