The Heinz Endowments has awarded $1 million to Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC to pay for environmental initiatives at the hospital and throughout the hospital system, UPMC said Friday.

The hospital is collaborating with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Physicians for Social Responsibility and others to provide information to obstetrical care providers so they can educate patients about environmental health risks that could affect pregnancy.

With Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, Magee is creating an instructional video on ways to improve health and make better environmental choices. Outreach will target school children.
