Ambulance Team Praise

A Team of staff from East Midlands Ambulance Service have been shortlisted for a national award.

The Alfreton-based Make Ready team were runners-up in the Safety in Care category of the NHS Health and Social Care Awards 2008, after making it through to the finals.

The team's duties include cleaning and servicing the ambulance fleet, checking the equipment in the vehicles, testing medical appliances, replacing any vehicles that become unusable during a shift and making sure drugs are stored correctly.

A spokesman for the service said: "They have a key role in infection control and have taken away many risk factors, meaning that frontline clinical staff are provided with emergency services vehicles ready for action."
